Creating Civilizations Project

Introduction: Now that you have a basic understanding about the purpose of the game and how to move about, your team needs to begin a game on your own. Begin by selecting Single Player, and then Play Now!. From there your team needs to to discuss the best options for your game. Be able to explain why you chose the many characteristic variables that will begin to shape your new found civilization.

When you get to YOUR DETAILS enter the team leaders full name. In Civ Description enter Period/Team (i.e. 3C). Start your team's DIFFICULTY LEVEL at "Settler" and GAME SPEED at "Normal", it's the easiest! Take your time and read EVERYTHING on the screen, including the numerous pop up notices. Take your time and discuss with each other what is happening.

Due Date: two weeks; 10 pts each week, (weeks 4 and 5)

Purpose: This video tutorial of the game Civilization IV will introduce your team to basic controls and strategies associated with this a turn-based historical simulation-strategy game.

Objectives: Gain an appreciation for the purpose of a settler, warrior, and scout; be able to move the various characters in relationship to the game; define and understand "strategy"; begin to develop strategic skills associated with the game.

Key Terms: monarch, dictator, democracy, direct democracy, representative democracy, republic, constitution

Procedures: Begin to immerse yourselves into the play of the game. As you all do, keep in mind these questions and possible answers...
  1. What civilization did you choose and why?
  2. Are you leaning more towards defense or cultural development and growth?
  3. As you encountered other civilizations, did you establish trade or go to war? Was is the on going consequence of this decision?
  4. What type of government did your team decide to obtain? What were the choices? What are the differences between them all?

Assessment: Answer all question completely, using full sentences, referencing to game and textbook concepts; 10 pts.
