1. What does a “settler” represent in the general expansion of civilizations in history? Who do you think were the "settlers" in America?
  2. Why start with a settler and not a warrior in the game?
  3. What does the phrase "fog of war" mean in the game? What do you think is its meaning in real life?
  4. The character known as a scout in the game explores the surrounding countryside. What are the equivalents of scouts in real life through out history?
  5. What is the importance of cultural development in a civilization?
  6. Explain how the many characters created contribute to the growth of the civilization and not a single one.
  7. What is the growth evolution of a hut?

1. The settlers represent the beginning of a civilization. They created the world we live in today. The British were the the first settlers.

2. Settlers have the knowledge and skill to survive, while warriors have the knowledge to fight.

3. "Fog of war" in other words "midst of war", it's describing the middle of the war.

4. Scouts were Native Americans in the game and also in real life.

5. It advances your civilization and makes it stronger. Having a culture forms traditions and practices bringing everyone closer.

6. Everyone in the game has a reason for being there. Without a certain person, the civilization would crumble.

7.

  2. What is the relationship between the growth of Technology, Money, and Research?
  3. What can your team conclude from the passing of years and growth within a civilization?
  4. What encourages trade routes to be constructed? What can you deduce then about the Silk Road, and maritime routes, and modern routes like wagon way, railway, our current highway networks?
  5. Sid stated that civilizations often race each other to be the first to build a particular Wonder, why? What are your team's thoughts concerning a the wonders already built in real civilizations?
  6. It's not too early to being to think about how you might want to WIN when you begin playing the game. Which type of win does your team believe to be the best rout to go?
  7. What is the relationships between religion and the type of government?
  8. How does Sid define Civics?
  9. Why is slavery an option to be used? What purpose does it serve in this simulation? Does it justify why slavery was used through out history, and even still used today?
  10. Decades, even centuries pass by before a civilization acquires new technologies and advanced civics - why do you think it takes so long?

1. Because not many people had already lived here so there was a lot of unclaimed land and resources. The settlers also came here because of the 1849 California gold rush.

2. The more research we conduct, the farther in technology we can go. Because of new technology it will always cost more.

3. The farther we go, the more developed our civilization becomes.

4. Everyone wants to do things in the easiest way possible, we have gone from wagons to trains, to highways and airplanes. As time progressed our trade routes have become more and more efficient.

5. The reason for that is because it can only be built once throughout the whole game.

6. Our team thinks it would be best to live in a diplomatic civilization. When you are peaceful, no one really has to need to go after your civilization. You'll work things out without war. Another option we'd prefer to win by would be cultural. This way, we'd always have a historic world.

7. Basically it plays out in a math problem...Religion = Happy Citizens, Happy Citizens = Productive Citizens and Productive Citizens = Successful Government.

8.

9. Slavery is most likely used as an option because it is a part of our history. It serves the purpose of experimenting with different ways to go about creating a successful civ.

10. It takes a long time because it takes a while for humans to research and find new technology.

  1. What civilization did you choose and why?
  2. Are you leaning more towards defense or cultural development and growth?
  3. As you encountered other civilizations, did you establish trade or go to war? Was is the on going consequence of this decision?
  4. What type of government did your team decide to obtain? What were the choices? What are the differences between them all?

1. We chose the Spanish empire because of their creativity and their beliefs.

2. We hope to have a good amount of both in our civilization, but if we had to choose we go with cultural development and growth.

3. So far we have spoken to George Washington and said no to war. He didn't mention anything about trade.

4. We didn't reach that point in the game today.

Strategies

We should try to make peace between King Carlos and King Louis so we can have alliances and win the war against King George.

We can do this by trading, we can create a document, try to understand why we have issues and then solve the problems.

We can gain control over the cities by developing our colony and obtaining more soldiers.

Sneak attacks would be best (use the trees) , this way we have the element of surprise.

Our soldiers are weaker than the British troops so attacking them would result in us losing.

By exploring the undeveloped land we can gain the trust of the colonies to add to our power.

If we develop our nation, we have a better chance of winning.

Build some boats, they give us a %10 defensive bonus

If we can find clams in our waters, it will improve our health

Hide in the trees, build houses and buildings in the mountains, use watermills for clean drinking water. This will be helpful in the midst of war.

WEEK ONE
Before we began the game, we chose the British Empire as our avatar. When we started the game the British were shooting at the colonists. (The Boston Massacre) When we checked our stats, we found that we had a big advantage over the colonists and that King Carlos and King Louis are annoyed with us. we're going to try and make peace with them. For our strategy, Ryan wants to bring one of our ships over towards Philadelphia, to over power them and gain control. We'll then move our troops towards Philadelphia and once we finish there New York. We'll continue to move from city to city.

We tried to make peace with King Carlos and his anger towards us lessened. He is now cautious towards us instead of annoyed. I find this to be the start of peace. We went back up towards Boston where we had spotted a minuteman, we killed him and then destroyed one of their ships. We've ending up killing about six minutemen, and we are now going over to visit King Carlos for we have established open borders with him. We are now killing Militia.

Our first day here turned out well, we're gaining the trust of other countries, and we may have some allies in the end. As for gaining control, we're on the right track. Hopefully next week, we can actually take over some cities. We killed a lot of minutemen and milita and even destroyed some of their ships.

WEEK TWO
Its our second week and for our first action, we'd like to gain control of New York by attacking and moving around. Well also work to gain King Carlos trust, as of now he's cautious of us. If we have him on our side then we'll have some allies. We'll continue to kill the Americans so that we can win the war.

Our first move included attacking New York with cannonballs, killing a Colonial Continental Regular, and we've also reduced the defense of New York to 17%. We're training soldiers and stationing them in Canada, and one of our men was just killed. We just lost Boston and Ft. Pitt to the Americans, but we gained back Boston. Ft. Pitt is currently on fire. We're continuing to reduce New York's defense. It went down to 12%. An American Calvary rode up on a horse, we're cautious of attacking. They took over Mobile, but we gained it back. New York is now down to 2%.

Today was very productive. Although we lost some cities, we always ended up taking them back. King Carlos is becoming friendlier to us, he's currently extremely annoyed with Washington. We're becoming stronger and stronger. Our defenses are better than Americans. We're extremely close to taking over New York. The only down side is that King Louis has declared war on us.

WEEK THREE

Today our first action would be to place more troops in Boston. The reason would be because there aren't any troops currently there. We also want to continue our attack with the ships on New York. Hopefully we can gain control soon. We also want to gain the trust of the other rulers. Shane wants to gain control over Philadelphia. We also want to continue making troops and killing the American soldiers.

When we first began playing King Carlos declared war on us. We are now in three wars. The only good thing that has happened to us would be the killing of two American soldiers. We just sunk two of King Louis's ships. King Louis is trying to invade Boston, so far we have killed two soldiers and sunk three ships. We lost Boston to the French but gained it back after killing a few soldiers. Mobile has been taken over by the Spanish Empire, we also lost Boston to the Americans. We don't seem to be doing too well.

Today wasn't our best. We lost a lot of land to the Americans. We tried to gain it back, but they seem to be too strong. I have a feeling we're going to this war. We have three countries against us. On the plus side, we took control over some of the Spanish Empire's territory. We ended the game about to attack Boston with ours ships. Hopefully next week we'll do better. Or not.

WEEK FOUR

It's our fourth week involved and our first task would to be gaining back Boston. We'll most likely try to build up our strengths even though in the end, we'll probably lose. It's not looking up for us. We would also like to take over New York, this may be hard because everyone is against us right now. It would be best for us to start over, but we can't. I think it may be a good thing that we're losing. For the rest of the game we will just go around and try to do a little better.

So far we haven't done much. We killed a few Americans and they killed some of us. We're not getting far with gaining back our states. We destroyed a few of the French ships, but the Americans are invading our territory. We're reducing the defenses of Boston, but New York is killing all of our soldiers. It seems for everything we do, something worse happens to us. Good news, we killed three soldiers...a French regular, an American, and a Spanish. Right now Ryan is looking around our map trying to find something to do. In July 1779, it says Europe would regularly send new units to the British. We have finally made peace with King Carlos III and have traded with him. King Louis sill refuses to talk to us. It's now August 1779 and Spain has declared war on us, they did so because we are the weakest country right now and they want some of the land when we lose.

We did even worse this week, while we had some ups in the game, we did terrible for the most part. We had made peace with King Carlos but shortly after they declared war on us again. It made it very difficult for us. George Washington is also weakening us. Soon we're going to lose and the Americans will win. I'm not sure if this is good or bad.

WEEK FIVE

We are now in our fifth week and the year is 1780. We're losing quickly, and we don't think we have any chance of winning. Our only route to winning would be gaining control over Philadelphia. We think that by doing this our chances may increase. America basically owns the whole country. We have little territory. Ryan wants to destroy the ships by Philadelphia so that we can gain it back. Shane wants to gain control over New York. Another idea we had was placing more troops in our territory.

In our first seconds playing we realized that we have many many soldiers stored away along with cannons. If we had realized this before we may have had a chance of winning. In July, 1780 AD The British would receive new units during war. The French Navy got pasted to British and 6,000 soldiers, but they were able to block them. Some of the good things that happened to us include, sinking ships, and killing other troops. August, 1780 AD... Benedict Arnold betrayed the Americans...the rest of the note went away.

We haven't been done any better today,we have pretty much given up. The only thing left to do is let the game play out. Nothing exciting happened today, we killed and we were killed. We are still at war. Things seem to have settled down, but they may get busy again when we try to take over some of the states. Like I said before we have given up.
