1. What does a “settler” represent in the general expansion of civilizations in history? Who do you think were the "settlers" in America?
  2. Why start with a settler and not a warrior in the game?
  3. What does the phrase "fog of war" mean in the game? What do you think is its meaning in real life?
  4. The character known as a scout in the game explores the surrounding countryside. What are the equivalents of scouts in real life through out history?
  5. What is the importance of cultural development in a civilization?
  6. Explain how the many characters created contribute to the growth of the civilization and not a single one.
  7. What is the growth evolution of a hut?

1. A settler represents the foundation of a civilization. They are the ones that actually settle in the area. The settlers in America were the pilgrims, who first came and developed a civilization in the New World.

2. You want to start with a settler rather than a warrior because you need to settle in an area before you go out and try to kill people. You want to strengthen your country before going to war.

3. The phrase "fog of war" is the unknown. In real life it is the land no one has discovered yet.

4. An equivalent to a scout would be people similar to Lewis and Clark. People that go out and find new things to conquer, or new resources to use. People like that are very important in the thriving of the Civilization.

5. Cultural development is important in a civilization because it keeps the people happy. That attracts more people to your civilization because it is a fun and happy place to live. The more people you have, the more work you can do, and the stronger military you have.

6. If you have different characters with different strengths, that makes you stronger. If you just had workers, then military would be terrible. If you just had warriors, there would be very low resources. Therefore, you would have an unattractive city.

7. The growth evolution of a hut is how the hut grows larger and larger until you have a entire city.

  1. Sid suggests that a new City be placed where there is an abundance of Food, Production, and Gold. Using your knowledge from previous years, why do you think European's early settlers, chose the America's to begin settles?
  2. What is the relationship between the growth of Technology, Money, and Research?
  3. What can your team conclude from the passing of years and growth within a civilization?
  4. What encourages trade routes to be constructed? What can you deduce then about the Silk Road, and maritime routes, and modern routes like wagon way, railway, our current highway networks?
  5. Sid stated that civilizations often race each other to be the first to build a particular Wonder, why? What are your team's thoughts concerning a the wonders already built in real civilizations?
  6. It's not too early to being to think about how you might want to WIN when you begin playing the game. Which type of win does your team believe to be the best rout to go?
  7. What is the relationships between religion and the type of government?
  8. How does Sid define Civics?
  9. Why is slavery an option to be used? What purpose does it serve in this simulation? Does it justify why slavery was used through out history, and even still used today?
  10. Decades, even centuries pass by before a civilization acquires new technologies and advanced civics - why do you think it takes so long?

1. The European's early settlers chose the America's to begin settling because there was a small amount of population, forests for building, and climate for farming.

2. The relationship between the growth of Technology, Money, and Research all relate to each other. It starts with research of different technologies, than money. You need money to create the different technologies. Than you go back to research to make your technology even better so you can make money. It is a continuous circle.

3. With the years passing the civilization grows. With each year that passes food, population, buildings, and money evolves.

4.The discovery of new cities encourages trade routes because if you know about another city, you will have to make a decision whether to go to war or be allies. What happened with the some of those trace routes was probably that one civilization discovered another and then decided to trade with each other. That is probably one the more common ways that those trade routes came to be.

5.Civilizations race each other to build a wonder becausea wonder not only make the current citizens happy, but it attracts other people to the city. The team and I believe that wonders are important to a civilization.

6. We would like to win the game either culturally or by war. Culturally, it would be good to win because you don't have as many enemies. Using military, it would be a little more fun, but we would have a lot more enemies. But with both, we would have a band of allies fighting against other solo civilizations.

7. Religion affects government a lot. Your government could have a law that you have to go to church every Sunday. Also, a religious leader could have a significant amount of power in a country. If your religion believes in equality of all people, the country might not have any slavery or discrimination.

8. Sid defines Civics by government, legal, and labor. In the government there is Despotism, Hereditary Rule, Representation, Police State, and Universal Suffrage. The legal includes Barbarism, Vassalage, Bureaucracy, Nationhood, Free Speech. Lastly the labor section includes Tribalism, Slavery, Serfdom, and Caste System.

9. Slavery is an option to be used because you then can do work more efficiently. The purpose of slavery in the simulation is that the slaves do work for you. That justifies why people still use slavery because people are many times too lazy or to good to do their own work.

10.It probably takes a long time to have new technology come out for many reasons. One reason is that people have to get over the old ways of doing things and start doing the new things. Another reason probably is that new technoogies are complicated to a lot of people.

1. What civilization did you choose and why?
2. Are you leaning more towards defense or cultural development and growth?
3. As you encountered other civilizations, did you establish trade or go to war? Was is the on going consequence of this decision?
4. What type of government did your team decide to obtain? What were the choices? What are the differences between them all?

1. We chose Greek because they are strong and powerful, yet smart and thoughtful.
2. Yes we are learning more towards cultural development and growth.
3. We traded more then we went to war. The consequences of this were we had to give things up that were ours.
4. The type of government we choose was

We plan to conquer boston from the Brits and then move on to get the surrounding enemy cities. We chose boston because it is close to the shore and easy to get people over to kill Boston.

Today, we want to kill many different cities. We especially want to destroy the larger cities in the middle of enemy territory. We want to kill them because they would give us an advantage against the enemy. We can hit them from the North, South and from the sea. We at least want to lower their defenses.

We did not conquer any of the cities. We only lowered their defenses. But we did kill a lot of people. We tried to become friends with Spain, but that could take a while. They are the only other civilization that is in game that we can befriend.

Our game today was pretty good. The Americans did not kill us very much. We murdered one city's defenses. They are at about 5% or 6% in their defenses. Next week we need to work on that city more to conquer it.

Today we have set a goal to conquer New York City from the Americans. We are going to complete this goal by attacking the city with our soldiers. We'll bring our soldiers from Quebec to New York City by ship. If all goes according to plan, New York CIty will be our territory by the end of the class period.

We had a difficult time conquering New York City. Throughout the class we tried to attack the city in hopes of defeating the Americans. We had many attempts but still could not attack them, we will continue to try until succeeding. Our ships attacked New York and made their defense down to 4%, unfortunately, two of our soldiers died during one of our attacks. When we attack with our ships, it seems to work a lot better than with our soldiers. We've attacked 4 times and have gotten New York's defense down to 0%! Our ships are much stronger than our soldiers, but now Mobile has been captured by the American colonies! We just got Mobile back by attacking with our soldier. We captured Montreal from the Americans and Ft. Vincennes from Spain. We are going back to try to defeat New York City.

Today we had a very productive class, we tried very hard to conquer New York City from the Americans. Unfortunately, that did not happen today but we are planning to try again next time. We also conquered Mobile and Montreal from the Americans and captured Ft. Vincennes from Spain. We have come very close to conquering New York City and have their defense down to 0%!

Today our strategy is to conquer Albany. We also want to conquer New York City with our Ship of the line. New York City had 5% health at the beginning of the game. We want to destroy it by the end of today.

So far the British has attacked the American New York City and destroyed all of their health. Hopefully we will be able to defeat them and take over the entire city so it will be part of british territory. WE protected Halifax with transports, frigates, and British Regulars. While trying to take over New York City, the Americans won the game.

We concentrated too much on one city! Unfortunately we did not ever conquer that city. We also did not make trade routes with other civilizations. The americans won because they had a higher score then everyone else. We should have traded with spain and become allies with them.

12-1-10
We want to make friends with Spain. We also want to try to defeat Boston. We want to keep our cities safe and not be to aggressive. We also want to stay with the French. We traded iron with Spain to make a trade. We made a theatre to make everyone happy. We conered Boston. We made a worker. The contental congress wanted to make a navy in 1775 and they did. This will help us because we have ships to defead our selfs from the British. Thomas pain made a panfelt named common sense in 1776 it become the best seller and talked about how america can make a stain about the british. It will make more people motivated to kill the british. Today we conquered Boston. We traded with Spain and were on there good side. We also have many troups that are defending our different areas.

Today our strategy is to kill the enemies that have entered our territories. We would also like to conquer British ship's that are surrounding us. British enemies have entered our territory and we would like to conquer them. We have killed two British Minutemen. One of our minutemen has been killed trying to conquer Portland. A British enemy has entered our territory (Albany Hospital). A ship has entered into New York city, we now plan to conquer them. We failed our mission trying to destroy the British ship. Going back to the British ship we failed, again. Moses appeared in the Savannah as the Great Prophet. We did not accomplish as much as we planned too. We focused mostly on Moses appearing in the Savannah. We added walls to New York. Also, we added walls to Charleston. We could not figure out why Moses, a great prophet from the bible, appeared in the Savannah during the Revolutionary War. Next time we play this game we plan to accomplish more.
